Can you help us improve? Resolved my issue. Clear instructions. Easy to follow. No jargon. Pictures helped. Didn't match my screen.

Incorrect instructions. Too technical. Not enough information. I cancelled the update and restarted my computer, but now Windows Update says has never recently checked for them, nor has recently installed any when it had just this morning.

I've run the Microsoft Update Diagnostic, and it comes up with an error: 0x, although when I searched it up, other people's error description did not match mine. Both Microsoft FixIt and running scannow on the command prompt came up empty - no other problem was detected.

I feel that my antivirus may potentially be the cause, since I read that if it checks a particular file, then it might cause this error, but I don't know how to make it not check that file. Any other solutions would be helpful, thanks. There is nothing wrong with your computers! The problem is a hopelessly inadequate Windows Update service.

Likely it is overwhelmed sending millions of 5 gigabyte Win10 files to unwilling Win7 computers, using the same equipment and network that normally services you and I. They do not want you updating Windows 7. They want you replacing it with Windows I have seen cases where the green bar continued overnight and finally found the updates, then spent many more hours downloading those updates.

My advice: don't even bother until the September updates, or be very, very patient. Stop trying to fix your computer. You are likely to make a mess of it for no benefit. Trying to fix your computer is pointless, when the problem is your supplier. Sort of like taking a part your car's engine because it does not start, when the problem is the gas tank is empty.

Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. Would it be okay if I just reinstall windows 7? I'm just not sure if I could use the same product key.

There are also WU trouble shooters and preparation routines that can be run. I would not think that re-install is necessary. After Windows 7, system drivers and all updates are installed and any stable applications like Microsoft Office are installed and updated, create a system image. When you are done you will have a very nice bit of insurance.

Should you ever again need to re-build a corrupted system or replace a hard drive, you will have a precise duplicate of your system as it was at that point. You can restore that image to a hard drive in about 20 minutes. Threats include any threat of suicide, violence, or harm to another. Any content of an adult theme or inappropriate to a community web site. Any image, link, or discussion of nudity. Any behavior that is insulting, rude, vulgar, desecrating, or showing disrespect.

Any behavior that appears to violate End user license agreements, including providing product keys or links to pirated software. Unsolicited bulk mail or bulk advertising. Any link to or advocacy of virus, spyware, malware, or phishing sites. Any other inappropriate content or behavior as defined by the Terms of Use or Code of Conduct. Sometimes, the DVD drive is occupying the drive after a reboot or reconfiguration. The issue also results to a problem: we cannot change drive letter to D drive.

We can check it in Windows Disk Management. If yes, right click it and select Change Drive Letter and Paths to assign it a different drive letter.

D drive missing after Windows 10 update. We may get the issue after an update or installation like files missing after Windows 10 update. Some system settings are changed after the install due to inappropriate operations or other unknown reasons. D drive has been formatted or deleted accidentally.

When we do some operations on partitions or hard drives like adjusting partition size or reformating a hard drive , the related drives have risk to disappear under mistaken operations. In a few cases, the D drive is not missing but the drive letter missing. In that case, we can assign a drive letter to that partition marked as asterisk in Diskpart or Disk Management.

There might be other possible reasons for D drive missing that are not listed. See if the D drive will appear after that. If we have created system restore points regularly on the computer, it would be much easier for us to return the PC to a normal status where the D drive is still there. Given that there are sufficient system restore points:. Type system restore on the Search box in Windows Follow the wizard to select the correct system point for restoring.

It will take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. Tips : Once started, System Restore cannot be interrupted. The computer will restart later, so be sure all programs are closed.
