You tap the wheel to move between them and press it to make a selection, at which point that app becomes your active window. It provides a remarkably easy way to switch between tasks, as long as your desktop setup is straightforward. On a system with two monitors and with multiple Firefox tabs open, we found keeping track of which screen was going to open up where a little difficult at first.
Eventually, though, we got used to it. Aside from the wheels, the MX Revolution is a relatively basic laser mouse in an extremely comfortable shell that has most of the features you'd expect. The two thumb-side buttons are smaller than on many other mice, but they're no less convenient to press for moving backward and forward between Web pages. At times they didn't register when we thought we'd pressed them, though, so the button sensitivity could use some tweaking, and that is not a setting you can change in Logitech's SetPoint software.
We were also slightly disappointed to see that the MX Revolution has no option to tweak the laser sensor's sensitivity on the fly. We imagine that designers and others, in addition to gamers, would appreciate the ability to switch cursor sensitivity without going into the mouse software. Logitech could have used the small button that sits under the scrollwheel for this.
It's set to call up the search engine of your choice, with results for the text you've highlighted, but we never found that capability particularly useful.
Rich Brown. The Good Free-spinning scrollwheel makes it easy to navigate long documents and Web pages; thumb-side wheel aides in application switching; comfortable design. Scrollwheel can be a little tweaky during finer movement; thumb-side buttons not sensitive enough; no on-the-fly cursor speed customisation. Every year we think Logitech has pushed the cordless laser mouse to the limit of functionality, and we're always proved wrong.
May 26, There are so many buttons and wheels on this thing that I actually run out of things to map to them while I'm playing games. The clickable 2 way thumb wheel is a strange, but comfortable and welcome addition to the standard gaming mouse thumb buttons. Though it's not bad for gaming, this mouse was really designed to be a desktop mouse - word processing, image editing and the such.
A touted feature is that the scroll wheel can shift from a clicking step-by-step scroll to a smooth gliding spin that can scroll through hundreds of pages of text in a few seconds. A nice function for those who heavily browse the web. The thumb buttons, in tandem with the thumb wheel makes performing multiple tasks in a program like Photoshop a breeze. Sadly, I have a very early edition of this mouse and the USB receiver is practically useless unless it's within a couple of feet of the mouse.
I can't plug it into the back of the computer, but having the receiver on a frontside USB port or the keyboard hub is a quick fix. This is a high end, comfortable mouse for just about any purpose - though there are better mice for heavy gamers.
A note to all prospective buyers though - the Logitech drivers, as stated before, are trash. Look for the Logitech Uber drivers on Google - they unlock the true potential of all the mice that Logitech has to offer. May 24, May 23, May 22, May 18, May 16, I'm finally giving up this mouse.
Mainly due to the "pads" on the bottom of the mouse. They seem to rub off on the mousing surface over time and then cause major tracking issues. The rechargeable batteries are nice and they charge fast, but the charger is bulky. It would be nice if they updated this mouse, and added bluetooth so I didn't need a dongle.
May 15, Some minor flaws battery life seems much weaker than the double-A battery powered mouse I have at work - I need to recharge every 2 weeks or so, and I really want to set middle-click for that "Search" button , but this is by far the best desktop mouse I have ever used. October 13, June 15, One downside would be the fact the rubber grip around the wheel will mis-align itself after a fair bit of use. The trick was to cut out the rubber and now works better than ever.
March 31, This mouse is just plain awesome. It features a ball bearing scroll wheel that will scroll forever. It can also be switched to a slower mode by clicking down on it. There is a built in search button that will launch you into Google to look anything up. There are also dedicated back and forward buttons for easy web navigation. The MX Revolution also features a side scroll wheel to switch between windows.
It is very ergonomic and seems to work well for most hand sizes. When paired with the MX keyboard you end up with one super combination. There are however 2 main drawbacks. First is that the required Bluetooth receiver is the size of a large thumb drive.
This sizing is not ideal especially when compared to smaller receivers included with other Logitech products. The other drawback is sub par battery life. Average life span is about 5 days. March 4, My only complaint is the charging. I tend to always forget to charge it every night and having it stop working in the middle of the day is awful. Maybe Logitech will bring this model back instead of trying to pass the Performance Mouse as the next generation.
January 25, When I first saw this mouse I knew that I had to have it, but I could not justify getting it because of the price. I finally broke down and bought it and I have no regrets. The docking station and lithium ion battery are fantastic. The battery life is really good. The mouse feels perfect in the had. The scroll wheel is superb. It has a really heavy feel, and the ability to switch from quick scroll to click scroll. THe back button is perfectly placed.
THe question mark button is a great idea, and the inner pull wheel can come in handy. August 25, This beautiful piece of Logitech equipment does everything I had hoped it would and does it beautifully. Accuracy is dead on and when combined with a SteelSeries surface, this thing is unmatchable. August 20, I purchased this mouse at Frys to use with expose and spaces in OS X. This was a good mouse until the laser stopped working after about a year with no drops or abuse.
The wheel, side wheel, zoom buttons and app button allowed it to do exactly what I wanted with OS X, so it was a great companion. I now use a wired mighty mouse for the desk. It is simple and elegant and costs less to replace when it breaks. I like the Revolution, but losing it has made me appreciate simplicity. Pros:-Great Mac driver support. However Logitech has full Mac support and all functions of the mouse are supported.
Using their software, you are able to assign any keystroke, or combination of keystrokes to a command. Have it open a specific web page or application, execute a macro, or any other possible function Scrolling, etc. The software is easy to use, unobtrusive, and just works. You also have full control over the scroll wheel. A more gentle flick and you are scrolling like a normal mouse.
OR even make it manually activated via a specific button. And another wheel on the side. Build in battery seems to last usually about 3 weeks before needing a recharge. Recharges in less than 30 minutes. The mouse also has a 5 level battery indicator on it. Excellent weight.
Feels natural to hold in the hand. Not too small. It is that good. July 29, Terrible performance for gaming. Unfortunately the positioning of the extra buttons makes it hard to press them, pretty much making them useless. This is the only one which actually hurt my hand. The best scroll wheel ever made. Makes it just as easy to scroll one thousand lines as it is one line. This is the reason why I bought the mouse, so I feel completely ripped off. They should have just put in 3 buttons and saved on costs.
The SetPoint configuration software. July 19, The customization options are amazing and so is the comfort. You can make this mouse do anything that you want. And I thought I would hate the free-scrolling wheel I originally got it because it felt really good in the hand , but now I have that set to always do that and never looked back. I hate using mice, now, with the click, click, click scrolling wheels.
July 16, I get chattering , particularly when watching web video or playing off iTunes and the only element I can tell is causing it, is the mouse. Reports online seem to back this up. Also, this is my second, as the first one came with a well diagnosed and still not fixed charging problem. Be careful. Check out some reviews on Amazon. July 12, The free spinning wheel is easily the best part about it. I am pondering getting a second gaming mouse though. July 5, I switched to this mouse from a different logitech.
My only complaint was the pain it caused my wrist when I first started using it. My hand adjusted to it now and I love it now. I had to do some tweaking around of the settings for the thumb button since I did not want to push it by accident and trigger something to happen. I finally decided on using the thumb button for expose features and the other buttons i left with the default settings. July 2, Some led mice were so insensitive they could handle most surfaces.
And then Microsoft went with a non clicking middle scroll wheel and that was the end for them. Never looked back, click to click just makes too much sense. I finally broke down and bought myself a MX Revolution a couple years ago when it was on sale.
I was still using a 2 button led logitech mouse back then. But oh man did that change when i got the Revolution. Set up was a breeze. I could use use it wherever. Cleaning would be only for aesthetics not because it stops working. Buttons did exactly what I want. But man oh man, the click to freewheel action was really what got me hooked. Who knew that such a simple trick would make a mouse a work of art.
One for my macbook and another one to use a spare on my desktop so that whenever I have to charge one I still have 1 to keep goin. This is a great mouse. I use it for general desktop work along with FPS gaming. Plenty of buttons, with the uber custom configuration add on, I can make the buttons do whatever I need them too.
The lack of an easy to use middle click button is frustrating, but using the uber hack, I reconfigured the mouse so the middle button side to side rocking works as the middle button. It works great on any surface. I have been using the MX Revolution at work for about 2 years.
The mouse is very comfortable to hold, and never replacing batteries is great, I still get good life from it. Although this mouse is priced at a relativity high price it does offer alot to like. For one it looks absolutely gorgeous. No battery to ever worry about, fits perfectly with the shape of your hand and the spin wheel controls are top notch. It has extra buttons to go back and forward on the browser and the flip view next to your thumb, which is phenomenal. The battery will last you around weeks depending on use.
For people looking for the best, this is it.
